There’s something special about fall in Burlington, Ontario. As the leaves begin to change and the air gets a little cooler, the city comes alive with beautiful hiking trails, seasonal events, waterfront walks and plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything our community has to offer.
Whether you already call Burlington home, are visiting for the weekend, or are considering making a move to the area, here are some of the best things to do in Burlington this fall.

1. Take in the Fall Colours at Mount Nemo
If you’re looking for spectacular fall views, Mount Nemo Conservation Area is a must-visit.
Located along the Niagara Escarpment, Mount Nemo offers forested hiking trails, impressive limestone cliffs and lookout points with views over Burlington and the surrounding countryside. It’s particularly beautiful from late September through October as the leaves change colour.
Pack your hiking shoes, bring a camera and make an afternoon of exploring one of Burlington’s most beautiful natural areas.
Local tip: Fall weekends can be busy, so consider planning your visit ahead of time.

2. Spend an Afternoon at Spencer Smith Park
You don’t have to leave downtown Burlington to enjoy a beautiful fall day.
Take a walk through Spencer Smith Park, enjoy the Lake Ontario waterfront and continue along the Waterfront Trail. The mix of changing leaves, lake views and crisp fall weather makes this one of our favourite ways to enjoy the season.
After your walk, head into Downtown Burlington for a coffee, lunch or dinner at one of the many local restaurants and cafés.
Spencer Smith Park is especially beautiful around sunset, when you can take in the waterfront and fall colours at the same time.

3. Explore the Royal Botanical Gardens
Fall is a wonderful time to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG).
Explore the gardens and surrounding nature trails as they transition into their autumn colours, or plan your visit around one of RBG’s seasonal experiences.
For 2026, RBG's fall programming includes Fall Displays in Hendrie Park from October 10 to November 1 and The Great Pumpkin Trail on select dates from October 15 to 25. The Pumpkin Trail features hundreds of illuminated jack-o'-lanterns, seasonal food, entertainment and pumpkin-themed activities.
It’s a great option for a fall date night, family outing or weekend activity close to home.

4. Discover Burlington’s Fall Trails
One of the best parts of living in Burlington is having so much nature within easy reach.
Beyond Mount Nemo, there are plenty of local trails and green spaces worth exploring when the leaves begin to change. Kerncliff Park is another great option, with wooded trails and elevated views along the Niagara Escarpment.
Burlington's location between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment gives residents access to a fantastic combination of waterfront, woodland and escarpment scenery.
Sometimes the perfect fall weekend really is as simple as grabbing a coffee and heading out for a walk.

5. Experience Culture Days in Burlington
Looking for something beyond outdoor activities?
Burlington Culture Days runs from September 18 to October 4, 2026, with free arts and cultural experiences taking place throughout the city.
Events include visual arts, performances, workshops, tours and community projects, with local organizations including the Art Gallery of Burlington, Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Burlington Public Library and Museums of Burlington participating.
It's a great opportunity to discover another side of the city and support Burlington's local arts and culture community.

6. Enjoy Burlington’s Local Restaurants and Cafés
As patio season begins to wind down, fall is the perfect excuse to discover a new favourite restaurant or revisit one you already love.
Downtown Burlington has plenty of places to stop for brunch, coffee, dinner or drinks, making it easy to pair a meal with a waterfront walk.
You can also turn it into a full fall outing: start with a morning hike, explore the city during the afternoon and finish the day with dinner downtown.

7. Visit a Local Farm or Enjoy Harvest Season
Head north into rural Burlington and the surrounding area and you'll find another side of the city.
Fall is harvest season, making it a great time to explore local farms, seasonal produce and family-friendly autumn activities. Discover Burlington specifically highlights rural farms and harvest experiences as one of the attractions of visiting Burlington during the fall.
It's also a reminder of just how diverse Burlington is—you can go from the Lake Ontario waterfront to rural countryside and the Niagara Escarpment without travelling far.

8. Make a Day of Exploring Downtown Burlington
Sometimes you don't need a major event planned at all.
Spend a relaxed fall Saturday exploring Downtown Burlington. Walk along the waterfront, browse local shops, stop for coffee, enjoy lunch and take in the seasonal atmosphere.
Fall is also a great time to rediscover the community you live in. Try a restaurant you've never visited, walk a different neighbourhood or explore a local trail you've always driven past.
